| Come back to a time when wars were fought with black powder muskets and smooth-bore artillery. FORSYTH'S RIFLES, INC., based in Ogdensburg, NY, is the umbrella group for local re-enactors interpreting various periods of America's history. Members of Forsyth's Rifles, Inc. re-enact the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the American Civil War. The units strive to accurately portray late 18th and early 19th century military history using appropriate reproduction clothing, accouterments, arms, and artillery The members aim educate the public through period military re-enactments and public outreach programs, including school visits and community projects. Encampments and educational programs feature authentic tactics and maneuvers. Membership in Forsyth's Rifles, Inc. is open to families. Women and children play important roles in the re-enactments. Family members portray a range on non military roles that add to the overall authenticity of the re-enactments. Women are also welcome to field as soldiers or artillerists. Each year the units take part in as many as 10 re-enactments in the United States and Canada. The members enjoy representing history and portray activities of mid-1700 through early 1800 to the best of their knowledge and abilities, dressed in historical clothing . Members will guide newcomers through the array of information. Soon you may think of them as extended family, looking forward to the meetings, activities, and weekend events at re-enactments. Re-enactors range from the retired to the new-born, and have equally diverse backgrounds. No matter how diverse the group, all share a common interest in history. Researching and fitting into a new (old) time and place is a long-term project and a satisfying one. The hobby grows with the individual and become mores stimulating as the riches of the past are made and new friends made in the re-enacting community. |
